Focused on getting word out about our project, the Daniel Boone High School Green Team sought a number of outlets to educate local and national communities on the workings of our BioGas Digester. Uma Bhatt, a member of the Green Team and journalist for The Blazer, Daniel Boone High School’s student-run newspaper, wrote an article featuring the Green Team’s achievements. The article was printed in the November 2014 edition of the blazer and was published on the district website along with a number of other announcements involving the Green Team.
The Reading Eagle, a local Berks County newspaper, did a feature on the Green Team’s involvement in the environmental sciences when they ran a story detailing the highlights of Scout Environmental Science Night. Held on November 23, 2014, the team hosted over 110 Boy and Girl Scouts, sharing our knowledge of and demonstrating harvesting gas from biomass. |
Not wanting to limit the promotion of our work to a local level, the Green Team began to seek additional platforms which would allow us to share our project beyond the district. The Green Team contacted WHYY, a branch of the US’s National Public Radio (NPR). After a short explanation of our digester and its purpose, WHYY was intrigued and invited the Green Team to Philadelphia to further explain our work on a segment of “You Bet Your Garden” with Mike McGrath. The interview, featuring Green Team member Quintin Reed and supervisor Shannon Helzer, will be broadcast in late December to mid-January to radios nationwide.
